Most insurance firms understand the importance of providing staff with access to online learning facilities. They also see the value in testing the knowledge of their staff, to help demonstrate that competence has been attained or is being maintained.
However, not all insurance e-learning and assessment systems are the same. Our own experience, based on feedback from clients, shows that they can be:
- unintuitive - leaving managers and staff frustrated as they click in and out of different areas of the system before eventually finding what they want
- inflexible - by not allowing managers the facility to add customised learning material and assessments, when needed
- uninspiring - by making learning seem more like a chore than a way of improving personal performance
- unfocussed on relevant needs - by including material which is distracting or inappropriate, causing clutter
The net result is that many e-learning and assessment systems are under-used, making them poor investments for employers as well as unpopular with staff.
